How do I get from Reus airport to Barcelona with a group?
The most direct way is a private minibus or coach from the arrivals area to your hotel, venue or cruise terminal in Barcelona. Reus airport to Barcelona is 102 km, about 1 h 35 min without traffic, measured to Plaça de Catalunya. I quote it as a fixed price for the vehicle, and you can check the route on Google Maps.
To get a quote, use the form below with the flight, the head count and the drop-off address. My home page on bus hire in Barcelona shows the fleet and how a booking works.
Reus is the airport nearest to Tarragona, and some groups land there and then need to be in Barcelona. A team, a school party or a wedding group lands with luggage, a fixed time to be somewhere and nobody who knows the local buses. This page covers what the alternatives look like, what the transfer needs to be planned around and how I price it.
How far is Reus airport from Barcelona, and how long does the transfer take?
It is 102 km by road to Plaça de Catalunya, about 1 h 35 min without traffic. That figure is the free-flow drive. It does not include the time from the aircraft door to the vehicle, a comfort stop or the last stretch into Barcelona.
The part that surprises groups is the end of the journey. The motorway is the quick part; the city is the slow part. Entering Barcelona on a weekday evening, or on the day of a big event, can cost far more than the map says. So I plan the pick-up time with a margin, and I ask whether the drop-off is in the centre or somewhere else, such as a hotel by the coast, a venue on the outskirts or a cruise terminal. The address changes the last 15 minutes more than the first 90.
For groups that must be at a fixed appointment, I work backwards: the appointment, the drop-off address, the drive, the margin and, last, the landing time. If the flight is delayed, the vehicle waits for the group, and I discuss the arrangement for a late landing when I quote.
How much is a private transfer from Reus airport to Barcelona?
This route is not in my standard price table, so it is quoted on request. I give a fixed price in euros with VAT included, for the vehicle, not per person. I do not publish a “from” price or a per-person split, because the figure depends on the vehicle, the day and the drop-off.
What helps me price it quickly:
- The flight number and the landing time.
- The number of passengers and large suitcases.
- The drop-off address in Barcelona.
- Whether you also need the return trip to Reus, which I price as a second leg.
For the fixed routes and hourly rates I do publish, see the price page. The Reus route is quoted case by case, so the airport and cruise-port rows of the table do not apply to it.
Which vehicle should a group take from Reus airport?
The head count decides first, the luggage second.
- V-Class: up to 7 passengers, for a family or a small business party. See Mercedes V-Class hire with driver.
- Sprinter minibus: up to 16 passengers. A group of 12 with cabin bags fits comfortably; with large cases it is a tighter fit.
- Minibus: up to 33 passengers, the usual choice for a school year group or a wedding party.
- Coach: up to 60 passengers, for a full team or tour party.
Groups tend to forget two things: instruments and sports equipment. A choir with cases, a team with kit bags or a wedding party with decorations needs room in the hold, not just seats. Tell me what you carry and I choose the vehicle from the cargo as well as the head count.
On a drive of this length, the driver also needs to take a legal break. EU rules on driving time apply to passenger vehicles with 10 or more seats including the driver, so to the Sprinter, minibus and coach but not to the V-Class. According to the European Commission, a driver must take a break of at least 45 minutes no later than after 4.5 hours of driving, and the daily limit is 9 hours, extendable to 10 hours twice a week. A single transfer of 1 h 35 min is well inside that, but a day that includes Reus, Barcelona and an evening return to the coast is not, so tell me the whole plan.
What are the other ways to get from Reus airport to Barcelona?
I want this page to be useful even if you do not book with me, so here is how the alternatives look, using what the airport operator publishes.
| Option | How it works | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Airport bus to Barcelona | A regional coach line; Aena says departures are adjusted to flight arrivals | One or two travellers with a bag | Timetables and fares change; groups split up |
| Line 50 bus, then train | Aena lists Line 50 as the bus to Reus town, serving the Renfe station | Budget travellers | Two changes with luggage, no direct link to Barcelona from the airport |
| Taxi | Aena says there is a permanent taxi service for arrivals | A small party | Fares vary by time of day and weekends |
| Private minibus or coach | One vehicle, one driver, one fixed price | Groups of 8 to 60 | Needs a booking before landing |
Bus
The Aena page for Reus lists an airport to Barcelona line run by Hispano Igualadina, and notes that departures are adjusted to the arrival of the flights. The operator’s site is monbus.es. I do not quote its times or fares, and a group should not rely on a seat being available: the page does not describe group bookings, so a class or a team has to check with the operator.
Train
Aena’s page does not list a rail service at the airport. It lists Line 50, run by Reus Transport, which goes to the centre of Reus and, according to the page, serves the Renfe train station and the bus station. So a train journey starts with a bus into town and then a ticket on the Renfe site. Barcelona Sants is the main station on the Barcelona side, and I can take a group there if the train is the plan.
The same Aena page also says there is no direct connection between the airport and the Camp de Tarragona high-speed station; you take Line 50 to Reus bus station and change. That is useful if a group has been told the airport is on the fast line.
Taxi
Aena says Reus airport has a permanent taxi service for arriving flights, with an information office in the arrivals lobby. Its page lists approximate fares for nearby towns and notes that they vary by time of day, weekends and holidays. It does not list a fare to Barcelona city, so I will not guess one. For a group, a taxi means several cars, and nobody travels together.
Private minibus or coach
One vehicle, one driver, one price. The group does not split up, does not carry bags through a station and arrives at the address it chose. For groups of 8 to 60 that is usually the easiest, and for a group with a fixed arrival time it is the safest.
Can I go from Reus airport to the Barcelona cruise port?
Yes. Some groups land in Reus and join a ship in Barcelona. The cruise terminals are at the Port of Barcelona, and the port’s transport services page states that private vehicles may drop off or collect passengers and luggage at the terminals but may not park, and that the Adossat pier terminals have a shuttle bus to the city centre.
For a group, that means the vehicle drops everyone and the luggage at the terminal and leaves, which is what a group wants. Tell me the ship, the terminal and the embarkation time from your cruise documents. If the port is also your return point, the cruise port transfer page explains how I handle the Barcelona side. Give the ship’s embarkation window a generous margin: a late arrival at the terminal is more costly than an early one.
What about Reus airport to Barcelona Sants or the centre?
Sants is Barcelona’s main railway station, and some groups want to continue by train, for example to Girona or to the border. I can drop you there; tell me the address in the form. For a hotel in the centre, the address is enough, and the driver finds the access.
Barcelona has its own rules for tourist coaches. The city’s Zona Bus regulation says that tourist coaches need a daily permit to operate in central Barcelona, and that advance booking is required for brief stops in busy tourist areas. The page does not define which vehicles count, so I do not make claims about specific ones. What matters to you is practical: for a large group, give me the exact drop-off point, and I plan the stop with the rules in mind. A hotel with its own forecourt makes the stop simpler than a street corner in the old town.
Is it better to fly into Reus or Barcelona for a group?
It depends on the programme. If the group is spending its days on the Costa Daurada, PortAventura or Tarragona, Reus is the natural airport and the transfer to Barcelona is a separate leg. If the group’s programme is in Barcelona, then flying into Reus adds 102 km and about 1 h 35 min on the road each way before the programme starts.
The extra leg costs time and money that a cheaper flight may not save, so ask the question before booking flights. For a group that has already booked into Reus, the transfer is simply the price of that decision; it is a normal job and the day can still run well if it is planned.
For a group that is staying in the Tarragona area, I have pages on Barcelona to Tarragona and on Barcelona to PortAventura, which cover the other direction. For flights into Girona, the Girona airport to Barcelona page applies. For Barcelona El Prat itself, read the airport bus hire page.
What should a group prepare before landing at Reus?
A little preparation saves the most time on the day. These are the points I ask about, in the order that matters.
- One leader. Name a person who has a working mobile number in Spain and who counts heads at the vehicle.
- Flight details. Send the flight number, not just the date, so I plan the pick-up around the real landing time.
- Luggage. Say how many large cases, whether any items are oversized and whether anyone travels with a wheelchair.
- Drop-off. Send the full address, the name of the hotel and, if there is one, the entrance for coaches.
- A return. If you also need the leg back to Reus for a flight, say so now; the pick-up time for an early flight is a night job.
The service runs 24/7, so an early or late flight does not need a different procedure. If a flight is cancelled or moved, tell me as soon as you know and I adjust the time.
Questions from group leaders
Is the transfer private, or shared with other passengers?
Private. The vehicle is booked for your group alone, and the route is the one you choose.
Can the driver stop on the way?
Yes. A comfort stop is normal on a 1 h 35 min drive with a large group, and I plan it where the vehicle can park easily. A longer stop, such as a meal or a visit, turns the job into a driver at your disposal and is quoted accordingly.
Do you transfer in the other direction, from Barcelona to Reus airport?
Yes, the route is the same distance in reverse. For an early flight, plan the departure from Barcelona with the traffic in mind and send the flight time; I work backwards from check-in. The official page for the airport is on Aena.
