What does Barcelona Grand Prix bus hire mean for a group?

It means one vehicle and one driver for your party for the whole race day, collecting everyone at the hotel, driving to the circuit and bringing the group back when it decides to leave. I do not run a public line, and I do not sell tickets: the price covers the vehicle and the driver, not a seat per person.

A race weekend at Montmeló is a logistics problem for a group. The roads fill, the group wants to arrive together, and the last public service is not the time anyone wants to plan around. The people who write to me are usually organisers: a friend who has taken charge of ten tickets, a fan club secretary, a company that is entertaining clients, or a travel agent with a hospitality package. The quote form below takes the date, the number of passengers and the pick-up point.

Which races are held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya?

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya at Montmeló hosts several championships. Its official events page lists MotoGP at the Catalan Grand Prix on 11 to 13 June 2027, and the circuit’s home page lists INDYCAR’s Grand Prix of Barcelona on 16 to 18 July 2027. Both pages show no Formula 1 date for 2027.

Formula 1 did race there recently. The Formula 1 calendar for 2026 lists the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix on 12 to 14 June 2026. I do not forecast later years: the calendars are set by the series, and a date I give today could be wrong tomorrow. If your group is looking for a Formula 1 weekend, check the Formula 1 site and the circuit’s pages before you book flights, and then send me the dates.

For a group that wants motor racing in 2027, the choice at Montmeló is MotoGP in June or INDYCAR in July. The transport questions are the same for both: 28 km from the city centre, a short drive and a busy approach.

How far is the circuit and how long does the drive take?

The circuit is 28 km from Plaça de Catalunya, about 30 minutes without traffic. You can see the route in Google Maps.

The phrase that matters is “without traffic”. On a race day the roads to Montmeló carry many more vehicles than usual, and the last kilometres are the slowest. I do not publish a race-day journey time, because I cannot verify one. What I do is agree an early departure with you and a realistic return window, and I adjust the plan after the first day if you book a full weekend.

The circuit’s access page says that cars should follow the C-17 to the Montmeló exit or take the AP-7, with exits 14 and 15 connecting to the C-17. A driver who knows the area uses that as a starting point and chooses the approach on the day.

What are the ways to reach the circuit, and when does a private vehicle win?

The circuit lists several. On its access page, it gives these options:

  • Commuter train. The R2 and R2 Nord lines from Barcelona stop at Montmeló station. Groups from Girona change at Granollers Centre for the R2 or R8.
  • Bus. Autocares Sagalés runs a regular service, including line 428 between Montornès, Montmeló and Granollers, and the N72 night line stops at Montmeló station.
  • Car. Via the C-17 or the AP-7, as above. The access page gives no parking information, and for race weekends I would check the ticket terms before assuming a space.

Public transport suits individuals and small parties who are happy to follow the crowd. A private vehicle suits a different situation. Here is when I would recommend it:

  1. The group is big enough that splitting hurts. At ten or more, someone ends up on a different train or in a different taxi, and the start of the day is spent finding each other.
  2. The group carries things. Flags, banners, a cool bag, spare layers for a day outside.
  3. There is a schedule. A hospitality lunch, a client meeting or a pit-lane slot.
  4. The group leaves a different hotel from the others. One pick-up at one door is simpler than three journeys to one station.
  5. The return matters. The last session ends and everyone wants to leave at once, and the vehicle is waiting.

For a pair of friends with tickets and no schedule, the train is the better answer, and I would say so.

What about official shuttles and ticket packages?

Some ticket packages include transport, and organisers sometimes provide shuttles, but arrangements change by event and by year. I do not list shuttle routes, fares or gates because I cannot keep them current. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and the event’s own ticket page are the places to read the terms. If your package includes transport, you may not need me. If it does not, or if your group wants control of its own departure, a private vehicle fills the gap.

Which vehicle suits which kind of group?

Group Vehicle Seats What to think about
Hospitality guests, a few friends Mercedes V-Class up to 7 Quiet ride, space for a small bag each
Fan group or a department outing Mercedes Sprinter up to 16 One vehicle for a big table of friends
Large fan club or company outing Minibus up to 33 Flags and cool bags in the hold
Full coach party Coach up to 60 One departure, one return, one driver

A group of up to 7 fits the V-Class. Up to 16 fit the Sprinter, covered on the minibus hire page. A group of around 25 takes the 30-seater minibus, and a full party of up to 60 takes a coach.

Race-day luggage is light: rucksacks, jackets, sun cream, ear protection and a flag. The question is not volume but what comes in on the way from the airport. If some of the group arrives from the airport that same morning, say so in the form, because suitcases change the vehicle I suggest. The airport leg is covered on the airport bus hire page.

What does the day cost?

The vehicle and driver are yours for the day. Prices are in euros, include VAT and are for the whole vehicle, not per person.

  • 8 hours at your disposal: €630 in the V-Class, €785 in the Sprinter, €900 in the minibus, €900 in the coach.
  • Each additional hour: €80 in the V-Class, €90 in the Sprinter, €110 in the minibus, €110 in the coach.

Hire by the hour has a 6-hour minimum per day, with no maximum. A race day is long: an early departure, hours at the circuit and a return after the last session. I suggest you plan for the 8-hour block and tell me if you expect a later return, because extra hours are charged at the hourly rate above.

Several days of the weekend, a late-night run after the race and anything else outside the table are quoted on request. I do not publish a “from” price for a plan I have not seen. The price page shows the other routes and the airport rows.

The minibus and the coach cost the same for 8 hours. A group of 25 may therefore choose the coach for the extra room without a higher day price.

How does a race day with a driver at your disposal work?

The driver collects the group at the hotel or the meeting point at the time I agree with you, drives to the circuit area and stays at your disposal. The group leaves when it chooses, not when a shuttle does. The service runs 24 hours a day, every day of the week, so an early start or a late return after the last session is booked like any other trip.

I cannot give you a gate number, a drop-off point or a parking rule, because the circuit sets them for each event, and they differ from year to year. The circuit’s website is where they are published, and your ticket terms say which gate you use. What I do is take the information you have, plan the drop-off and pick-up with you before the date, and put it in writing so the group leader and the driver agree.

On the day, these small things make the difference:

  • Share the pick-up point with every passenger, by message, with a map pin.
  • Give the driver a number for the group leader.
  • Leave earlier than you think. The approach is the slow part, not the motorway.
  • Decide the return rule in advance: everyone together after the last session, or in stages.
  • Keep valuables with the group. The vehicle holds jackets and bags between sessions, but I cannot store items overnight.

Can I book a party bus or a private sightseeing day around the race?

A race trip is often part of a longer weekend. For a stag or birthday group that wants a lively journey, the party bus page covers the party vehicle option. For a company that wants to combine the race with a day for clients, see the corporate bus hire page. A racing team or a youth squad has its own needs, and the sports team bus hire page covers them.

If your trip also includes a trade event in the city, the MWC Barcelona bus hire page explains how I handle delegations at Fira Gran Via. Both pages start from the same principle: one vehicle, one driver, your schedule.

Does a long race day affect the driver’s hours?

It can, and it is worth a line in the plan. For buses and coaches with 10 or more seats including the driver, the European Commission sets 9 hours of driving a day, 10 hours twice a week, and a break of 45 minutes after 4.5 hours of driving. The driving time and rest periods page adds the daily and weekly rest. These rules apply to the Sprinter, minibus and coach, and not to the V-Class.

The drive to Montmeló is short, so a single race day does not come near the limit. What matters is a full weekend with early starts, a long wait and a late return, repeated over three days. If I see a plan that does not fit the rules for one driver, I say so before you confirm, and propose a second driver or a changed schedule.

What should an organiser send to get a quote?

  1. The date or dates, including the days you want the vehicle, not only the race day.
  2. The pick-up point, such as the hotel name and the number of people at each.
  3. The number of passengers, and who in the group has reduced mobility.
  4. The hours you expect, with the earliest departure and the latest return.
  5. Luggage and equipment, including flags, banners and cool bags.
  6. The event, so I can check the circuit’s published dates for that series.

With these, I can say whether one vehicle is enough. A group of 40 fans might take a coach, or two 16-seaters if the pick-up points are different. If you are comparing operators, ask each of them the same questions, including whether the driver waits for the group and what happens to the price if the day runs long. Mine are answered above.

If you are weighing the options generally, the bus rental in Barcelona page covers general bus rental.

How to book

  1. Use the quote form below, or the contact page.
  2. Enter the date, the number of passengers and the pick-up point.
  3. Say which series or event you are attending, so I can plan times around it.
  4. I reply by e-mail or WhatsApp with the vehicle and the quote, VAT included.
  5. You confirm, and I agree the pick-up details with you.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get from Barcelona to the Grand Prix circuit?

The circuit is at Montmeló, 28 km from Plaça de Catalunya, about 30 minutes by road without traffic. By public transport, the circuit lists the R2 and R2 Nord commuter trains to Montmeló station and Sagalés buses. A private vehicle collects the group at the hotel and stays at your disposal.

Is there a Formula 1 race at Montmeló in 2027?

The circuit's own pages list MotoGP on 11 to 13 June 2027 and INDYCAR on 16 to 18 July 2027, and I found no Formula 1 date for 2027. The 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix was on the Formula 1 calendar for 12 to 14 June 2026. Check formula1.com and circuitcat.com for later years.

How much does it cost to hire a bus for the Grand Prix?

A driver at your disposal for 8 hours is €630 in the V-Class, €785 in the Sprinter, €900 in the minibus and €900 in the coach, VAT included. Each additional hour is €80, €90, €110 and €110. Hire by the hour has a 6-hour minimum per day.

Does the driver wait for us during the race weekend?

Yes. With hire by the hour, the vehicle and driver stay at your disposal for the day and you decide when to leave. I agree the pick-up point with you before the date so the group and the driver look for the same place.

Can you take a group of 25 fans with flags and bags?

Yes. The minibus seats up to 33 and the coach up to 60, so 25 people with rucksacks and flags fit with room to spare. What you may carry through the gates is set by the circuit, so check its rules before you pack.

Can I book a party bus for the race weekend?

I describe party buses on a separate page. For a race trip, a standard minibus or coach with a driver is the usual choice.

Do the driver's working hours limit a long race day?

For vehicles with 10 or more seats including the driver, which covers the Sprinter, minibus and coach, European rules limit driving to 9 hours a day and require a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours of driving. The drive to the circuit is short, so the question is the length of the whole day, which I check when I read your plan.
