How do I get a group from Barcelona airport to Andorra?

The simplest way for a group is one private vehicle from the arrivals hall to the hotel in Andorra. Barcelona airport to Andorra is one of the longer transfers you can book from El Prat: 199 km to Andorra la Vella, about 2 h 45 min without traffic. See the road on Google Maps.

Send the date, the flight, the hotel and the head count in the quote form and I reply with the vehicle and the price, VAT included. The service runs 24 hours a day, every day of the week.

Andorra tourism lists Barcelona-El Prat among the international airports within 200 km of the principality. It also names the closest airport as Andorra-La Seu, in La Seu d’Urgell, which is why many first-time visitors assume there is a convenient flight into the mountains. For most groups, flying into Barcelona and driving is the practical option. The details are on the official how to get here page.

I do this for groups who would otherwise split into taxis, or change to a scheduled coach with all their luggage. This page covers the vehicles, the road, the border, ski groups and what to prepare for a transfer of this length.

Which vehicle should I choose for the Andorra transfer?

Choose by head count first, then by equipment. A transfer of nearly three hours is a place to be comfortable, and skis, boots and large cases fill a hold quickly.

Group size Vehicle Seats What decides the choice
Up to 7 Mercedes V-Class up to 7 Family or small business party; ski bags need checking
8 to 16 Mercedes Sprinter up to 16 Teams, friends on a ski week, a wedding party
17 to 33 Minibus up to 33 School and club groups with equipment
34 to 60 Coach up to 60 Large ski groups, travel agency parties

If you are comparing sizes, the pages on minibus hire and coach hire explain what each vehicle carries. A group of twelve with big bags may need the minibus instead of the Sprinter, and I say so when I read the plan.

For a family of six or seven, the V-Class feels like a private car with a driver. For anything larger, a single minibus or coach is easier for the group leader than two cars.

How long does the drive from Barcelona airport to Andorra take?

The drive takes about 2 h 45 min without traffic, over 199 km. In practice I plan with a margin, because the route climbs into the Pyrenees and the conditions change.

According to Andorra tourism, the road from Spain is the N-145 from La Seu d’Urgell. Factors that add time:

  • the exit from the airport area at peak hours
  • mountain weather, with snow and fog in winter
  • the border control at the entrance to Andorra
  • a comfort stop for the group, which is normal on a long transfer
  • Friday afternoons and holiday starts, when traffic leaves Barcelona

I do not plan a schedule around the best case. A group with a tight dinner booking or a flight on the same evening should ask me for the real time, and I give it with the margin in mind.

What are the alternatives to a private vehicle?

There are several, and the right one depends on the group.

  • Scheduled coach. Andorra tourism says scheduled international services connect Andorra’s cities with more than twenty destinations in Spain, including Barcelona. The operator Andbus lists Barcelona airport stops in its booking form, with a stop at Terminal 1 and one at Terminal 2, and publishes its own timetable and fares. These suit one person or a couple with a single bag. For times and tickets use the operator’s own site.
  • Train. Barcelona has no direct rail link to Andorra. Andorra tourism recommends Lleida Pirineus station, where high-speed trains from Barcelona Sants stop, and you continue by bus or car from there. The nearest French station is L’Hospitalet-près-l’Andorre, about 11 km by road from the border.
  • Taxi. Fine for one to four people. A larger group needs several cars, and a fare for this distance is best agreed before departure.
  • Shared shuttle. Shared vans collect several bookings, so the route can include other stops. A private vehicle leaves when your group is ready.
  • Private minibus or coach. One pick-up, one vehicle, door to door. This is my service.

I do not quote timetables or fares for other operators, because they change. The point is the group: a family of nine with ski bags faces three problems on a public coach, which are the number of bags allowed, the walk from the stop to the hotel, and a departure time that is not yours.

How much does a transfer from Barcelona airport to Andorra cost?

The airport to Andorra run is not in my fixed table, so it is quoted on request. The quote includes VAT and is for the whole vehicle, not per seat. I do not give a from price or a range, because the figure depends on the date, the vehicle, the destination in Andorra and whether you need a return.

The fixed prices I can state are for Barcelona itself: airport to or from Barcelona is €80 with the V-Class, €200 with the Sprinter and €320 with the minibus and the coach. They are a shorter route and I do not stretch them to Andorra.

If the vehicle stays with the group in Andorra, hourly hire applies with a 6-hour minimum per day and no maximum. Six hours are €470 with the V-Class, €610 with the Sprinter and €685 with the minibus or coach, and extra hours are €80, €90 and €110. A full day with a driver in the principality is quoted from the hours and the route you give me. The wider table is on the bus hire price page.

What about ski groups and Pas de la Casa?

In winter, many groups from the airport are headed for the slopes. Andorra tourism’s ski page names Grandvalira, Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís among the main resorts, and lists Pas de la Casa as one of the sectors of Grandvalira.

For ski groups, the vehicle decision depends on equipment more than on seats. Tell me:

  1. the number of skiers and snowboarders
  2. how many ski or board bags there are, and how many boot bags
  3. the resort or the hotel
  4. whether you want a return at the end of the stay, and when

Snow and mountain roads can slow a transfer, so the drive time above is a free-flow figure and not a promise. For a group in a hurry to be on the slopes the next morning, I suggest planning arrival on the day before and not on the same morning.

The page on Barcelona to Pas de la Casa by ski bus has more on the winter run, including how equipment changes the vehicle I recommend.

Do passengers need documents to cross into Andorra?

Yes. Andorra is not in the EU, and there is a border control on the road. The official passports, visas and customs page states that EU citizens need a valid national ID card or passport, and that non-EU citizens should check whether they need a Schengen visa. The visa must allow at least two entries, so that the traveller can enter Andorra and re-enter the Schengen area afterwards.

Minors need attention. The same page says that minors travelling without a parent or guardian need a valid ID card or passport, a declaration of departure issued at a police station and a signed parental authorisation, with photocopies of the parents’ passports. For a school or club, the group leader should check this well before the date, not at the vehicle.

Customs apply on the way back. The page explains that there are limits on goods bought in Andorra that you can bring into the EU, and that allowances may vary by age. The exact figures are in a flyer linked from the page. I do not give advice on entry rules for individual nationalities, because they change. I ask every passenger to carry the documents, and I keep the vehicle ready at the border.

Do EU driving-time rules affect a transfer of this length?

They do, and they are a reason to plan the day with care. The European Commission’s page on driving time and rest periods sets a daily driving limit of 9 hours, extendable to 10 hours twice a week, and a break of at least 45 minutes after 4.5 hours of driving. In my fleet these rules concern the Sprinter, the minibus and the coach, which carry more than nine passengers. The V-Class is a car.

A single run to Andorra of about 2 h 45 min fits inside the limits. The problem is a day that adds a long wait at the airport, the run to Andorra and a return the same night. I flag that in the reply and suggest a different timing, an overnight stay or a split into two days. The rules protect the passengers as much as the driver, and a group is better served by a plan that respects them from the start.

How should a group plan a three-hour journey?

A transfer of this length is a different job from a hotel run. A few habits help.

  • Comfort stop. For a group of 20 or more, one short stop on the way is normal. Say if you want it, and I place it where the vehicle can park.
  • Luggage. Skis, golf bags and large cases all use space. Count them and tell me.
  • Arrival after dark. Say if your flight lands late. The drive is long, and the driver needs your flight to plan the day.
  • Hotel address. Andorra’s streets can be steep and narrow, so I confirm where a large vehicle can stop.
  • Border documents. Ask every passenger to keep passports or ID cards within reach, not in the hold.
  • Sitting order. A group prone to travel sickness should sit near the front. Tell me before departure.

Where the group meets the driver depends on the terminal. Aena’s page on group buses at the airport lists stops for occasional services at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and I confirm the exact point with you once I have your flight.

If you want to see Andorra for a day instead of arriving from a flight, read the page on Andorra by private bus.

Is it worth going on to Andorra after landing in Barcelona?

It depends on what the group wants. The principality is known for mountains, shopping, spas and skiing, and the Andorra tourism site is the right place for general information. Because the transfer is long, it suits groups that come for a stay of several days more than a group that has only one free afternoon.

For a ski week, a spa weekend or a team trip, flying into Barcelona and driving is the normal route. For a group that only wants a taste of the mountains, a closer outing from Barcelona is easier on the clock, and the page on Montserrat shows what a shorter airport run looks like. I do not list opening hours or prices for attractions, because they change.

How to book

  1. Open the contact page or use the form below.
  2. Enter the arrival date, flight and terminal.
  3. Add the destination in Andorra, the number of passengers and the bags, with skis counted separately.
  4. Say if you need the return transfer, and when.
  5. I reply by e-mail or WhatsApp with the vehicle I suggest and a quote that includes VAT.

If you are not sure whether your group needs a minibus or a coach, send the head count and the number of bags and ask. I would rather answer that question before the booking than at the arrivals hall. The same goes for the return: if the group leaves Andorra on a different day from the original plan, tell me as early as you can, and I adjust the pick-up. The home page shows the whole fleet and how a booking works from the first message to the drop-off.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get from Barcelona airport to Andorra?

The main options are a scheduled coach, a taxi or a private vehicle. Andorra tourism says scheduled international services connect Andorra with Barcelona, and for a group a private minibus or coach takes everyone from the terminal to the hotel with the luggage and no change of vehicle. I quote it on request.

How far is Barcelona airport from Andorra?

The road distance from El Prat to Andorra la Vella is 199 km, about 2 h 45 min without traffic. Mountain weather and the border can lengthen the journey, so I plan a margin and never the best case.

Is there a shuttle from Barcelona airport to Andorra?

Scheduled coach services link the airport and Andorra, run by other companies, and their timetables are on their own sites. A private shuttle is a separate service: your own vehicle, your hotel and your departure time, priced for the vehicle and not per seat.

Is there a train from Barcelona airport to Andorra?

No train goes into Andorra. Andorra tourism recommends the Lleida Pirineus station, where high-speed trains from Barcelona Sants stop, and you continue by road from there. For a group with luggage, one private vehicle from the airport avoids the change.

Can I take a ski group from Barcelona airport to Pas de la Casa?

Yes. Pas de la Casa is a sector of Grandvalira on the border and I quote the transfer on request. Give me the number of people, the skis and boards, and the hotel, and I choose the vehicle.

Can I book a coach from the airport to Andorra for 50 people?

Yes. The coach seats up to 60 passengers. Send the flight and the hotel through the form and I quote the transfer, VAT included.

Do passengers need documents to enter Andorra?

Andorra is outside the EU. Andorra tourism states that EU citizens need a valid national ID card or passport, and non-EU travellers should check whether they need a Schengen visa allowing at least two entries. Minors travelling without a parent need extra paperwork.
