What is the easiest way to get a group from Barcelona to PortAventura?
For a group, the easiest way is a private bus: one vehicle that collects everyone at one address in Barcelona, drives the 107 km to the resort in about 1 h 30 min without traffic and brings the group back when you decide. That is what barcelona to portaventura bus hire means in practice: a driver, a vehicle and a fixed one-way price, with the timetable set by the group.
Send the date, the number of passengers and the pick-up address in the quote form below, and I reply with the vehicle and the price. If you want to see the whole fleet first, my home page on bus hire in Barcelona shows it, and you can check the route on Google Maps.
The questions I hear from group organisers are always the same. How many seats does the group need, what time must it leave to be at the gate when the park opens, where does the vehicle wait and how does everyone get back at the end of a long day? This page answers them in that order.
How much is bus hire from Barcelona to PortAventura?
Barcelona to PortAventura bus hire costs €610 one way for the Sprinter (up to 16 passengers) and €750 for the 33-seat minibus or the 60-seat coach. The V-Class for up to 7 passengers is €235. Prices are in euros, include VAT and are for the whole vehicle, not per person.
The table adds what the price row does not show: which group each vehicle suits on a day at a theme park.
| Vehicle | Seats | One way to PortAventura | Typical group |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mercedes V-Class | up to 7 | €235 | a family or a small birthday party |
| Mercedes Sprinter minibus | up to 16 | €610 | a youth team, a few families, a staff outing |
| Minibus | up to 33 | €750 | one school class with teachers, a club section |
| Coach | up to 60 | €750 | two classes together, a large club or company group |
The minibus and the coach cost the same on this route, so a group of 30 with a lot of bags can choose the coach for room instead of squeezing into a full minibus. A return the same day, a driver who waits at the resort and a return on another date are not in the table, so they are quoted on request. Hire by the hour has a 6-hour minimum per day and no maximum, with extra hours at the hourly rate on the price page. I do not give a total for a day with a waiting driver here, because it depends on how long the group stays.
How long does the drive take, and what time should the group leave?
The drive takes about 1 h 30 min without traffic over 107 km. Plan on more: the first hour is the exit from Barcelona, and the arrival at a large resort on a busy day is not instant either. Work backwards from the time you want the group at the gate.
- Look up the opening time of the park on the day (see below).
- Subtract the drive of about 1 h 30 min.
- Subtract a margin for traffic leaving Barcelona, bigger on weekday mornings.
- Subtract boarding time. Counting a class onto a vehicle takes longer than it looks, and a comfort stop on the way is normal with children.
The opening times are on the resort’s own dates and times page, where you choose the park and see its hours. I do not repeat them here, because they change through the year. The same is true of tickets, special events and promotions.
Driver hours matter on a long day. Under European Union rules, a driver must take a break of at least 45 minutes after 4.5 hours of driving, the daily driving limit is 9 hours (10 allowed twice a week) and the daily rest is at least 11 hours, as the European Commission sets out. These rules apply to vehicles with 10 or more seats including the driver, so the Sprinter, the minibus and the coach, not the V-Class. The drive to the resort fits well inside them. A day that starts at dawn, includes a long wait and ends with a late return is where they start to count, which is why I ask for the whole plan.
Which of the three parks is the group visiting?
The resort has three parks, and the choice changes how long the group stays. According to the PortAventura World home page, PortAventura Park has six themed worlds, about 40 attractions and daily shows. Ferrari Land is described as the only park in Europe dedicated to the Italian motor racing team, with 16 rides and games. Caribe Aquatic Park is a water park with 16 attractions and pools.
Why does a bus company care? Because the park decides the day:
- A full theme park day means the group arrives at opening and leaves at closing. The driver’s plan, the return time and the group’s energy all follow from that.
- A water park day is shorter in cold weather and different in luggage: towels and wet bags travel on the way back.
- Two parks in one trip need a clear meeting point at the end, because groups split.
Tell me which park, so I can think about the return time. For ticket types, group rates and what each park offers on the day, use the official pages; I do not quote tickets.
Is a private bus better than a train for a school or club group?
For most groups, yes, but the train is a real option and I would rather you knew it. PortAventura’s how to get there page says that Rodalies de Catalunya lines R-17 and RT2 have a stop at the resort, and that with a park ticket the round-trip train ticket is free if you travel from a Catalan station. The same page lists a daily Plana coach service along the Costa Dorada, a Thursday service from the Costa Brava run by Moventis and bus and ticket excursions from Barcelona sold by Julià Travel.
Those are good options for families and individuals. A group is a different case. A private bus changes four things:
- it picks everyone up at one address, such as a school gate or a hotel
- it carries lunch bags, jackets and souvenirs without anyone carrying them through a station
- it leaves when the group is ready, and the group leader knows exactly where the vehicle is
- it drops the group at the resort and brings it back, with the same driver and no change on the way
A teacher with a class and a list of names has a very different day on a private vehicle than on a platform at rush hour. For timetables and fares, check the operators’ own pages; I do not speak for them.
How do schools and clubs book a day at PortAventura?
Schools and clubs book two things: the park and the vehicle. The park has its own pages for groups. PortAventura’s school groups page points to a 2026-2027 school brochure, to a group rates download and to school-group hotel rates, and describes overnight stays in 4-star hotels on a full-board basis. It does not state a minimum group size or coach access rules in the page text, so ask the resort’s group desk for those, and ask for them in writing.
For the vehicle, I need a short list from the group leader:
- the final number of pupils and the number of adults, counted separately
- the pick-up address and the time the school must be back
- the mobile number of the responsible teacher
- anything that travels with the group: lunch boxes, a first-aid bag, a pushchair, a wheelchair
For the general rules on school and sport bookings, the school and sport team bus hire page explains how I handle the list and the return. Club outings work the same way: one list, one contact, one return time.
Which vehicle should the group choose?
Seats come first. Count everyone, including teachers, parents and the group leader. Then think about the way back: tired children, bags with souvenirs and perhaps a change of clothes. The sizes I run are 7, 16, 33 and 60 passengers. If the group is at the limit, take the next size up.
A family or a small party of up to 7 fits the V-Class with driver. A youth team or a few families, up to 16, fit the Sprinter minibus. A class with teachers or a club section fits the 30-seater minibus, and two classes together fit the 50-seater coach, which holds up to 60.
What changes the choice on this route:
- Children’s bags. A class of 30 with lunch bags and a few adult bags may be comfortable in a 33-seat minibus, but a full vehicle with bags on laps is less so.
- Two vehicles instead of one. For a group of 40 in two age bands, two vehicles can leave at different times. Ask in the form if that suits the plan.
- A group with limited mobility. Tell me before the day, so I can agree with you where the vehicle stops and how long boarding takes.
Where does the driver wait, and what happens at the end of the day?
The driver agrees a meeting point with the group leader for the end of the day, and I confirm the drop-off and the pick-up area with you before the date. Large resorts have access rules of their own for coaches and I do not state them here, because the official pages I opened do not publish them. Ask the resort’s group desk and tell me the answer, and I plan the vehicle around it.
On the return, the group’s energy is lower than on the way out. Plan a calm departure: ask the group leader to count heads at the vehicle, not at the park gate, and to name one adult as the last to board. If the group expects to stay until closing time, say so in the form. A late return changes the quote, and the service runs 24/7, so the pick-up can be late at night without a different structure in the plan.
For a day with a driver at your disposal, tell me the time of the return and I price the day. For a one-way trip, with the return booked later or on a different date, the one-way row applies each time. Neither has a published price in my table beyond the one-way rows above.
Can part of the group arrive by air or join from Tarragona?
Yes. Some families land in Barcelona and join the rest at the resort, and others arrive at Reus. PortAventura’s how to get there page says the resort is about an hour from any terminal at El Prat and about 15 minutes from Reus airport. For the Barcelona leg, the Barcelona airport to PortAventura page covers that transfer, and I can quote both legs together so the schedule matches.
For pick-ups around Tarragona and the nearby coast, see Barcelona to Tarragona. Short local runs near the park are quoted on request: send the pick-up place and the time. If the group then continues to other destinations in the region, coach hire in Catalonia shows what I can run.
What about corporate days and birthday groups?
A company leisure day or a team-building outing uses the same route, with different questions. The organiser wants an invoice, a clear arrival time and a vehicle that looks right. PortAventura has its own team-building programme, and the corporate bus hire page explains how I plan the transport around it.
A large family birthday is the opposite: smaller group, more luggage, younger children. A Sprinter is often enough for 12 to 16 people, and a V-Class takes one family with grandparents. The advantage of a private vehicle is that the group leaves together, and the driver stays reachable for the return.
How early should the group book?
As early as the date is fixed. School trips cluster in spring and early summer, and weekends and holidays fill first. If the headcount is not final, send a range and confirm later. The more you tell me about the plan, the fewer surprises there are on the day.
How to book
- Open the quote form below.
- Enter the date, the pick-up address in Barcelona and the time.
- Add the number of passengers, with adults and children counted separately.
- Say whether you want a one-way transfer, a return the same day or a return on another date.
- I reply by e-mail or WhatsApp with the vehicle I suggest and the price.
If you are still choosing between destinations, the Sitges page shows a shorter group day from Barcelona.
