What is the best way to get a group from Barcelona to Sitges?

For a group, the best way is a private Barcelona to Sitges minibus: one vehicle that collects everyone at one address in Barcelona, drives the 39 km to Sitges in about 40 min without traffic and brings the group back when you decide. Public trains and buses exist and work for individuals, but a group has to move together, with bags, and often at an hour when timetables are thin.

Tell me the date, the number of passengers and the pick-up address in the quote form below, and I reply with the vehicle and the price. If you want to see the whole fleet first, my home page on bus hire in Barcelona shows it, and you can check the route on Google Maps.

The people who book this route are rarely tourists with one suitcase. They are wedding guests in smart clothes, a stag or hen party, a company team on a day out, a school class, or a group that has come for a festival and wants the evening to end without a taxi queue. What they have in common is a head count, a start time and a return that matters. This page is built around those three things.

How much does a Barcelona to Sitges minibus cost?

A Barcelona to Sitges minibus costs €345 one way for the Sprinter (up to 16 passengers) and €420 for the 33-seat minibus. The 60-seat coach is also €420, and the V-Class for up to 7 passengers is €135. All prices are in euros, include VAT and are for the whole vehicle.

The table below puts the one-way rows next to the day-trip estimate, which is what you pay when the driver stays with the group. The estimate assumes about 4 hours on site and about 40 min each way, which rounds up to 6 hours of hire, the minimum for hourly work.

Vehicle Seats One way to Sitges Day trip with 4 h on site
Mercedes V-Class up to 7 €135 €470
Mercedes Sprinter minibus up to 16 €345 €610
Minibus up to 33 €420 €685
Coach up to 60 €420 €685

Two things follow from the table. First, the minibus and the coach cost the same one way, so a group of 30 may as well look at the coach if it carries a lot of luggage. Second, the one-way row is for a drop-off: the driver leaves. If the group wants the same driver back in the evening, the job becomes a day trip and the second column applies.

Hourly hire has a 6-hour minimum per day and no maximum, with extra hours at the hourly rate on the price page. A stay of several days, a pick-up outside Barcelona or a late-night return to a different address is quoted on request. I do not publish a “from” price for those, because the figure depends on the plan.

How far is Sitges from Barcelona, and how long does the drive take?

Sitges is 39 km from Plaça de Catalunya and the drive takes about 40 min without traffic. That is the shortest of the group routes I run, which makes it easy to fit into a day, but it is also the route where people underestimate the margin they need.

The 40 min is the free-flowing figure. It is not the figure I plan on. Leaving Barcelona on a weekday morning, on a Friday afternoon or on a weekend in the warm season takes longer, and the last stretch into a seaside town on a busy day is slower still. When a group has a fixed arrival time, I work backwards from it:

  1. Start from the time the group must be in Sitges (a ceremony, a booked lunch, a first event).
  2. Add the drive of about 40 min.
  3. Add a margin for traffic leaving Barcelona, larger on Fridays and holiday weekends.
  4. Add boarding time. Counting a group onto a vehicle takes longer than it looks, especially after a long lunch.

For the return, the same logic applies in reverse, and I add more margin because groups leaving an event board slowly and the group leader often has one or two people still to find. Ask one person in the group to be the contact for the driver.

Train, bus, taxi or a private minibus: what changes for a group?

For a single traveller, the train is the usual choice. Sitges tourism says the R2 line of Renfe runs between Barcelona and Sitges with frequent service, and its train guide names three Barcelona stations on the R2 Sud: Estació de França, Passeig de Gràcia and Sants. It also notes that from the airport you take a train to El Prat de Llobregat and change, and that the trip to Sitges on the R2 Sud takes 24 minutes. The same site’s how to get there page lists a bus operated by La Plana and Bus Garraf, a taxi and the car as the other options. For timetables and fares, use the operators’ own pages, for example Rodalies de Catalunya; I do not quote them here because they change.

What those options do not do is carry a group door to door. A private minibus changes four things:

  • it picks everyone up at one address, such as a hotel, a school or a flat
  • it leaves when the group is ready, not at the next departure
  • it drops the group close to the venue instead of at a station in town
  • it brings the group back at the agreed time, with the same driver

A taxi suits a couple or a family of four. A train is fine for people who travel light and do not mind a walk at each end. A minibus or coach becomes the better answer when the group is large, when luggage or equipment travels with it, or when the return depends on the party rather than on the timetable.

Which vehicle fits which group?

Seat counts decide the vehicle, and the way the group travels decides whether to go one size up. A small family or a few friends fit the Mercedes V-Class with driver, which holds up to 7. A stag or hen party of 10 to 16 fits the Sprinter minibus. A wedding party, a company team or a school class of 17 to 33 needs the 30-seater minibus, and a full event of up to 60 takes the coach.

Here is how I think about it for this route:

  • Count everyone. Include the group leader, teachers, the couple’s parents and anyone who “might come”. A vehicle that is exactly full is a vehicle with bags on laps.
  • Think about the return. People return with gifts, jackets they did not need on the way out and sometimes a few more guests than they left with. A Sprinter with 16 people on the way out has no slack on the way back.
  • Think about the drop-off. The old centre of a seaside town has narrow streets. A Sprinter or a minibus can get closer to the door than a coach. Give me the exact address and I tell you where the vehicle can stop.
  • Think about luggage. A group of 12 with large suitcases for a weekend stay may be more comfortable in the 33-seat minibus than in a full Sprinter.

What are the typical group bookings to Sitges?

Weddings and private parties

Sitges has hotels and venues that wedding groups use. Guests travel from Barcelona hotels in the afternoon and often return late at night. The outbound leg is straightforward. The return is the one that needs planning: say what time you expect the party to end and I plan the pick-up around that, not around the programme. The service runs 24/7, so a pick-up after midnight is possible, and it is quoted on request. My wedding guest transport page explains how I plan the two legs together.

Stag, hen and party groups

Groups that want a night out sometimes prefer one vehicle to several taxis. The practical question is the end of the night: where the group is collected, who counts heads and what time the driver is told to leave. Agree these before the day, not at the kerb. If you want a vehicle that is part of the evening, see the party bus page.

Company days and school trips

Teams use Sitges for a day by the sea and schools use it for a class outing. For companies, the questions are the invoice, the arrival time and the return time; the corporate bus hire page covers those. For schools, a final list of pupils and adults and the mobile number of the responsible teacher are what I need, and the school and sport team bus hire page explains the rest.

Festival visitors and airport arrivals

Many visitors come for an event. Others land at Barcelona airport and go straight to Sitges. For the second case, the airport to Sitges page is written for that route, and I can quote the arrival and the return together.

When is Sitges busiest, and what does that do to the transfer?

Sitges is busiest during its big events, and on those days the drive takes longer and the pick-up point is harder to reach. The town’s tourism site lists the Sitges Carnival 2027 from Thursday 4 to Wednesday 10 February 2027 on its Carnival page. The Sitges Film Festival, the International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, held its 59th edition from 8 to 18 October 2026 according to the festival’s own site, so check the festival site for the next dates. The town’s full events agenda lists the rest, including the Corpus flower carpets.

For a group, three things change on those dates:

  1. The drive. Allow a larger margin than the 40 min of the table, in both directions.
  2. The drop-off. Streets near the centre can be closed or crowded. Tell me the venue address and the date, and I confirm where the vehicle can stop.
  3. The return. Everyone wants to leave at the same time. A pick-up point slightly away from the busiest street is often easier, and I agree it with you in advance.

I do not state local parking or road-closure rules, because they change from one event to the next. For those, contact the Sitges town hall or check the event organiser’s page for the date you are travelling.

Can the minibus wait, or do I need a separate return?

Both work, and the choice is about money and flexibility. If the driver waits, you have a day trip: the vehicle stays with you, the pick-up time is yours, and the price follows the day-trip column of the table above. If the minibus drops you and leaves, you have a one-way transfer, and the return is a separate booking at the one-way price, with the driver arriving at the time you set.

A day trip is better when the group wants one fixed return time and a vehicle that is simply there. Two one-way trips are better when the group splits, when the outbound and the return are at very different hours, or when the group will stay overnight. If the plan is a night out that ends at an unknown hour, tell me that in the form, because a late return changes the quote.

Driver hours matter for the larger vehicles. Under European Union rules, a driver must take a break of at least 45 minutes after 4.5 hours of driving, the daily driving limit is 9 hours (10 allowed twice a week), and the daily rest is at least 11 hours, as the European Commission sets out. These rules apply to vehicles with 10 or more seats including the driver, so the Sprinter, the minibus and the coach, and not the V-Class. A 39 km run is far inside the limit on its own. The rules matter when the same driver has been on the road since the morning and the group wants a very late return, which is another reason to tell me the full plan at the start.

What should the group leader prepare before the day?

A short list saves most of the problems I see on group days:

  • the final number of passengers and the date they were counted
  • the exact pick-up address in Barcelona and the exact address in Sitges
  • the time the group must arrive and the time it wants to leave
  • the number of large suitcases, bags or equipment cases
  • anyone who needs extra time to board
  • the mobile number of one person the driver can call

For a group that has not yet fixed the details, send a range and confirm later. Weekends in the warm season and the event dates above fill first, so it is better to ask early than to ask the week before.

Is Sitges worth a day trip from Barcelona?

Yes, for a group that wants a change from the city. Sitges tourism lists 19 beaches on its official site, with lifeguard services, sunbeds and beach bars, and describes an old centre with a church, houses built by returned emigrants and the Town Hall in a building from 1889 on the foundations of a medieval castle. The same site has a page on museums and exhibitions, which is the place to look if the group wants something to do besides the sea.

With 40 min each way, the day works well for a half-day or a full day. A group that wants only the beach in winter may find it quiet; a group that comes for a wedding, a match or a festival finds the town at its busiest. If you are still choosing between destinations, Montserrat is a different kind of day, in the mountains, and the longer routes I run are covered on the pages for each destination.

What if the group arrives or leaves by air?

A common request is a group that lands at Barcelona airport and wants to go to Sitges without changing vehicle, or the reverse on the last day. The airport and the town are on the same side of Barcelona, so the transfer is a regular booking. Send the flight arrival time and the number of bags, and I plan the pick-up around the landing and the time the group takes to reach the vehicle. For a departure, work backwards from the check-in time of the flight, add the drive and add a margin. A group that leaves Sitges late in the morning for an afternoon flight has less slack than it thinks.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to get from Barcelona to Sitges with a group?

For a group, a private minibus or coach is the simplest: one pick-up address in Barcelona, one drop-off in Sitges and no change of vehicle. Trains and scheduled buses suit individual travellers who are happy to follow a timetable. The route is 39 km and takes about 40 min without traffic.

How much does a minibus from Barcelona to Sitges cost?

One way, my table lists the V-Class (up to 7) at €135, the Sprinter (up to 16) at €345 and the 33-seat minibus or the 60-seat coach at €420, VAT included. The price is for the whole vehicle, not per person. A return with the driver waiting is priced as a day trip.

How much is a day trip to Sitges with a waiting driver?

With about 4 hours on site plus the drive each way, the estimate is 6 hours of hire, which is the minimum: €470 for the V-Class, €610 for the Sprinter and €685 for the minibus or the coach, VAT included. Extra hours are charged at the hourly rate.

How far is Sitges from Barcelona?

From Plaça de Catalunya the route is 39 km and takes about 40 min without traffic. Allow more time on summer weekends, at carnival time and when the film festival is on.

How do I get from Sitges back to Barcelona?

The same minibus can bring the group back at the time you choose if you book a day at your disposal. If you book a one-way transfer, the return is a separate booking, so agree the time and pick-up point in advance, especially after an evening event. Public trains also run between the two places.

Is Sitges worth a day trip from Barcelona?

For many groups it is: a seaside town 40 min from the city, with a beach promenade, an old town and a busy events calendar. Sitges tourism lists 19 beaches. A private vehicle keeps the day flexible, so the group is not tied to a train timetable.

Can the minibus take us from the airport to Sitges?

Yes, airport transfers to Sitges are a regular booking. Send the flight arrival time through the form and use the airport to Sitges page for the route.
