What is the best way to take a group from Barcelona to Girona?

For a group, the best way is a private minibus or coach: one vehicle that collects everyone in Barcelona, drives the 101 km to Girona in about 1 h 15 min without traffic and runs to the group’s schedule. Trains and scheduled buses are fine for individuals, but a school class, a football team or a company outing is easier in one vehicle that leaves when the group is ready.

That is what a Barcelona to Girona minibus gives you: one driver, one vehicle, your timetable. Pick-ups are not limited to the square. Hotels, schools, stadiums and the airport work as well, and the quote follows the route you send. You can check the route on Google Maps, and my home page on bus hire in Barcelona shows the full fleet.

Searches for this trip are full of timetables and marketplace results, because most people are looking for a ticket. A private minibus has no ticket and no timetable. What it has is a price per vehicle and a plan for the day, and this page is about the plan: seats, bags, arrival time, return time and what the fixed price covers.

How much does a Barcelona to Girona minibus cost?

A Barcelona to Girona minibus costs €610 one way for the Sprinter (up to 16 passengers) and €750 for the 33-seat minibus. The 60-seat coach is also €750, and the V-Class for up to 7 passengers is €210. Prices are in euros, include VAT and are for the whole vehicle, not per person.

If the driver stays with the group for the day, the job is priced by the hour. With about 4 hours in Girona and 1 h 15 min each way, the estimate rounds up to 6.5 hours of hire, which is above the 6-hour minimum.

Vehicle Seats One way to Girona Day trip with 4 h on site
Mercedes V-Class up to 7 €210 €510
Mercedes Sprinter minibus up to 16 €610 €655
Minibus up to 33 €750 €735
Coach up to 60 €750 €735

Do not read the two columns as one scale. The one-way row is a fixed price for a single transfer on the route, while the day trip is hourly hire for the time shown, with the driver waiting. They price two different jobs, so the €735 day estimate for the minibus and the coach sitting below the €750 one-way row is not an error, and I quote the one that matches your plan, not the lower number. If the group wants a transfer in the morning and a different pick-up in the evening, tell me and I price that plan.

Hourly hire has a 6-hour minimum per day and no maximum, with extra hours at the hourly rate on the price page. A stay of several days, a second stop on the way and a late-night return to another address are quoted on request. I do not publish a “from” price for these.

How long does the drive from Barcelona to Girona take?

The drive from Plaça de Catalunya to the centre of Girona takes about 1 h 15 min without traffic, over 101 km. For a group, I plan on more. The free-flowing figure assumes an empty road, and the first part of the journey is the exit from Barcelona, which is slow on weekday mornings and on the Friday before a holiday.

A few rules of thumb I use for this route:

  1. Start from the fixed arrival time (a check-in, a match, a ceremony, a meeting).
  2. Add the drive of about 1 h 15 min without traffic.
  3. Add a margin for traffic leaving Barcelona.
  4. Add boarding time. Counting a class of children onto a vehicle takes longer than it looks.

For the return, the same logic applies in reverse. If the group stays on site, you can agree a pick-up time on the day, and the driver stays in contact through the number I send with the confirmation.

Driver hours are the other limit. Under European Union rules, a driver must take a break of at least 45 minutes after 4.5 hours of driving, the daily driving limit is 9 hours (10 allowed twice a week) and the daily rest is at least 11 hours, as the European Commission sets out. These rules apply to vehicles with 10 or more seats including the driver, which means the Sprinter, the minibus and the coach, not the V-Class. A day that is simply to Girona and back is well inside them. A day that adds the Costa Brava, a long wait and a late return is the one to discuss with me first.

Which vehicle fits the group?

Seat counts decide everything, so I start there. For up to 7 people, the Mercedes V-Class with driver is the sensible choice. For 8 to 16, the Mercedes Sprinter minibus keeps everyone together and leaves room for luggage. A school class with teachers, a bachelor party or a conference delegation fits the 30-seater minibus, which holds up to 33. Above 33 people you need the 50-seater coach, which holds up to 60.

The minibus and the coach have the same one-way price on this route. If your group is 30 to 33 people I would take the minibus, and for 34 to 60 the coach is the only choice. Do not squeeze a group into a vehicle that is exactly full: with bags on laps, nobody enjoys the journey.

Luggage and seat planning

Seat counts are not the whole story. A Sprinter carries 16 people comfortably, but 16 people with 16 large suitcases is a different job from 16 people with day bags. When you ask for a quote, tell me:

  • the number of passengers, including teachers, coaches or guides
  • the number of large suitcases, sports bags or equipment cases
  • any passenger who needs step-free access or extra time to board
  • the exact pick-up address in Barcelona and the drop-off in Girona

With that, I can say whether the Sprinter works or whether the 33-seat minibus is the safer choice for the luggage, even if the headcount is low.

What do groups do in Girona?

Most groups come for the old city, and some come for an event. The city’s Jewish quarter is run by the Patronat Call de Girona, which also runs the Museum of Jewish History, and its site has a page for group reservations and educational tours for learning groups. Girona Cathedral’s official site highlights its Gothic nave as the widest in the world and links to online ticketing; check it before the day for hours and group arrangements, as I do not quote them.

Flowers are the best-known event. Girona City Council reported that the 2026 edition of Temps de Flors ran from 9 to 17 May, with 141 floral projects at 113 locations across the city, as the council’s news item states. I have not confirmed the 2027 dates, so check the council’s site before fixing a group date. Whatever the event, a busy weekend changes two things for a group: the drive takes longer and the central streets are crowded, so the drop-off point matters. Give me the exact address and the date, and I tell you where the vehicle can stop.

Who books this route?

School trips and sport teams

Girona is a popular day out for school groups, and the same route serves teams travelling to matches and tournaments in the area. For these bookings I ask for a final headcount and the contact number of the teacher or manager. The adult count matters as much as the pupil count: a group with a coach staff, a physio and kit bags fills a vehicle faster than the player list suggests. See bus hire for schools and sport teams for how these bookings work.

Corporate groups and wedding guests

Companies use the route for team days and client visits, and wedding guests travel between Barcelona hotels and a venue near Girona. These groups usually need two legs: to the venue and back late in the evening. A late return is a different job from a daytime run, so tell me the time and I quote both legs together. The service runs 24/7, so the pick-up can be after midnight, and I say plainly when that changes the quote. The corporate bus hire page covers company bookings.

Airport arrivals and the Costa Brava

Many groups arrive at Girona airport, not at Barcelona. If that is your case, look at Girona airport to Barcelona and Barcelona airport to Girona. If Girona is only the first stop and the group continues to the coast, the Costa Brava bus hire page covers that side.

Is a minibus better than the train or the bus for a group?

For individuals, often not. Trains and scheduled buses run between Barcelona and Girona, and the operators publish their own times and fares; I do not repeat them here because they change. Rodalies de Catalunya publishes its services on its official site, and that is the place to compare. A solo traveller with a rucksack is well served.

For a group, the comparison changes. A private minibus:

  • picks everyone up at one address instead of at a station
  • carries luggage and equipment without anyone carrying it through a platform
  • leaves at the time the group chooses, with no fixed departure to miss
  • drops the group at the venue and brings it back at the agreed time

A group of 14 players with kit bags does not want to find seats on a train with a change at either end. A wedding party in good clothes does not want a taxi queue at midnight. A school does not want 25 children on a public platform. Those are the cases where I suggest a private vehicle.

What does the fixed price cover, and what does it not?

The prices in the first table are one-way transfers on this route. A return the same day, a long wait in Girona, a second stop on the way or a late-night pick-up are not in the one-way rows. They are priced as a day trip, as in the second column, or quoted on request when the plan is more complicated.

If you want the vehicle to stay with you in Girona for a full day, hire by the hour is the alternative. The day-trip estimate in the table is arithmetic on the hourly rate: the drive each way plus the hours on site, rounded up to the half hour. If your group stays 6 hours instead of 4, the estimate rises, and I tell you the figure before you confirm. For several days, the quote follows the plan, and I explain it in writing.

How early should I book, and what does the group leader prepare?

As soon as the date is fixed. Weekends, holiday periods and event dates fill first. If the headcount is not final, send a range and confirm later. The group leader should prepare a short list:

  • the final number of passengers and when it was counted
  • the pick-up address in Barcelona and the drop-off in Girona
  • the time the group must arrive and the time it wants to leave
  • the number of large bags or equipment cases
  • the mobile number of one person the driver can call

For a first trip with a school or club, add the name of the responsible adult. That is all I need to quote, and the more complete the list, the fewer changes on the day.

How to book

  1. Open the quote form below.
  2. Enter the date, the pick-up place and time in Barcelona, and the drop-off in Girona.
  3. Add the number of passengers and large bags.
  4. Say whether you need a one-way transfer, a return the same day or a day at your disposal, and the time of the return.
  5. I reply by e-mail or WhatsApp with the vehicle I suggest and the price.

If you are comparing vehicles first, my page on Mercedes Sprinter hire shows the minibus in detail.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a minibus from Barcelona to Girona cost?

One way, the Sprinter (up to 16 passengers) is €610 and the 33-seat minibus or the 60-seat coach is €750. The V-Class for up to 7 passengers is €210. All prices include VAT and are for the whole vehicle. A return with the driver waiting is priced as a day trip.

How much is a day trip to Girona with a waiting driver?

With about 4 hours on site plus the drive each way, the estimate is 6.5 hours of hire: €510 for the V-Class, €655 for the Sprinter and €735 for the minibus or the coach, VAT included. Extra hours are charged at the hourly rate.

Is there a fixed timetable for a private minibus to Girona?

No. A private minibus runs to your schedule: you choose the pick-up time and place in Barcelona and the drop-off in Girona. Tell me the arrival time you need and I plan the departure around it, leaving room for morning traffic on the way out of Barcelona.

Which vehicle do I need for a group of 25 going to Girona?

The 33-seat minibus. A Sprinter stops at 16 passengers, so a group of 25 needs the next size up. If everyone brings a large suitcase, mention it in the form so the vehicle is chosen for luggage as well as seats.

How long does the drive from Barcelona to Girona take?

The route is 101 km and takes about 1 h 15 min without traffic. Allow extra time at rush hour and on busy holiday weekends. I build the pick-up time around your arrival time, not around the best case.

What does a 60-seat coach from Barcelona to Girona cost?

A 60-seat coach is €750 one way, VAT included, whatever the number of passengers on board. Fewer people than seats does not change the price, so a group of 50 pays the coach row.

Can the minibus take us from Girona to the airport or on to the Costa Brava?

Yes, but onward legs are not in the fixed table, so they are quoted on request. Send the route and the times through the form and I reply with a price.
