What is the easiest Barcelona to Figueres bus for a group?

The easiest option for a group is a private bus that collects everyone at one address in Barcelona, drives to Figueres and waits while the group visits the Dalí Theatre-Museum. It is 138 km from Plaça de Catalunya, about 1 h 40 min without traffic, and you can check the route on Google Maps.

Send the date, the museum slot and the number of passengers in the quote form below, and I reply with the vehicle and the price. If you are comparing several day trips, my bus hire Barcelona home page shows the whole fleet and how a booking works.

Most searches for this route are about timetables, tickets and fares, and a private bus has none of those. It leaves when your group is ready and it is priced per vehicle, not per seat. That matters for a school class, a club or a tour party, because nobody has to buy individual tickets, find a station platform or split across two departures.

How far is Figueres from Barcelona, and how long does the drive take?

Figueres is 138 km from central Barcelona and the drive takes about 1 h 40 min without traffic. That figure is a free-flow calculation, so on a Friday afternoon, at the start of a school holiday or on a summer weekend the group should expect more.

Figueres is the capital of the Alt Empordà. The Government of Catalonia’s heritage pages describe it as Dalí’s birthplace and the main economic, cultural and commercial centre of the comarca, and they point to the Rambla, the Sant Ferran castle, the Museum of the Empordà and the Toy Museum of Catalonia as places to see besides the Dalí Theatre-Museum. Most groups only have time for the Dalí museum, but the list is useful if the programme has a free hour.

The drive is short enough to fit a normal working day. Under the European Union rules a driver of a larger passenger vehicle may drive 9 hours a day, extendable to 10 hours twice a week, and must take a break of at least 45 minutes no later than after 4.5 hours of driving. The European Commission explains these rules and they apply to the Sprinter, the minibus and the coach, which have more than nine seats including the driver. A Figueres day trip stays comfortably inside them, which is not true of every route on my list.

How much does a Barcelona to Figueres bus cost for a day trip?

For a return day trip I count the drive each way plus the time on site. The estimate below uses 1 h 40 min each way and 3 hours in Figueres, rounded up to the half hour: 6.5 hours of hire. Prices are in euros, include VAT and are for the whole vehicle.

Vehicle Seats Estimate, 6.5 hours of hire
Mercedes V-Class up to 7 €510
Mercedes Sprinter minibus up to 16 €655
Minibus up to 33 €735
Coach up to 60 €735

Hire by the hour has a 6-hour minimum per day and no maximum, and extra hours are charged at the hourly rate: €80 in the V-Class, €90 in the Sprinter and €110 in the minibus and the coach. A full day with the driver at your disposal for 8 hours is €630, €785, €900 and €900 in the same order. If the group wants a long lunch or a second stop, the hours go up and I adjust the estimate before you confirm.

The minibus and the coach cost the same on this route. A group of 25 may as well take the coach if it carries bags or wants more room, and a group of 40 has no choice but the coach. The prices page shows the airport and hourly rows. A one-way transfer to Figueres, a stay of several days or a return on another date is quoted on request, and I do not publish a “from” price for it.

Is a private bus better than the train or a public coach to Figueres?

For a single traveller the public services are the obvious choice, and I do not compete with them on price. For a group the comparison changes, because the problem is not the distance but the coordination.

  • Train. Rail links exist between Barcelona and Figueres. The timetable and the fares are set by the operator, so check Renfe for current services. A group then needs local transport or a walk from the station to the museum and has to move together at both ends.
  • Public coach. Several operators serve the route. Each publishes its own timetable and tickets, and a group of 30 has to fit the seats left on a given departure.
  • Taxi. Possible, but a long run for a vehicle that seats four, and a group would need several cars.
  • Private minibus or coach. Door to door from the hotel or school, the group arrives together, the driver waits and the return time is yours.

I do not list timetables or fares for other operators, because they change and they are not mine to state. What I can tell you is what a private bus changes: one pick-up point, one departure time, one drop-off close to the museum and the same driver for the return.

What should a group know about the Dalí Theatre-Museum before booking?

A group should book the museum first and plan the bus around the slot. The museum’s official page recommends buying tickets online, gives group conditions, and lists opening days that change by season. It is on Plaça Gala i Salvador Dalí, in the centre of Figueres.

Points from that page that affect a bus group:

  • Guided tours need prior authorisation from the museum, and explanations cannot be given to groups of more than 25 people, except in the Courtyard and the Dome.
  • School groups with minors who visit independently have to split up, with a responsible teacher supervising the minors at all times.
  • Luggage, pushchairs and bags worn on the back are not allowed inside, and larger items than the size limit on the page are refused. There is a left-luggage service in the lobby for what can be stored.
  • The entrance for visitors with reduced mobility is on Plaça Gala-Dalí, and the museum asks you to tell admission staff in advance.
  • The museum lists a group rate for groups of 25 or more, cheaper when booked online than at the ticket office. The amounts and the conditions are on the official page and may change, so read them there, as I do not quote them.

I do not give opening hours here either. The museum’s calendar is seasonal, with different hours in summer, and last entry is before closing time. Read the current calendar when you choose the date, and ask the museum about group arrangements if you are more than a handful of people.

How do I plan the departure around a museum slot?

Work backwards from the time on your ticket. Subtract the 1 h 40 min drive, add a margin for the exit from Barcelona and for the walk from the drop-off point, and you have the latest departure. I do this with you when you send the form, and I suggest leaving earlier rather than later.

A worked example, without figures that are not yours: if the group has a slot at midday, the driver cannot leave at the time that makes the arithmetic exact. Barcelona’s ring roads are busy in the morning, a coach needs a legal place to stop, and a group of 30 takes longer to leave a vehicle than a family of four. Give the group a margin and you will spend it on coffee, not on the museum queue.

Some practical points on the day:

  • Drop-off. A coach needs a legal stopping place. The museum page does not describe coach access, so I confirm the drop-off with you in advance. A Sprinter or the V-Class can usually stop closer.
  • Meeting point. Choose one clear spot for the return, and repeat it to the group before they enter. It saves the last twenty minutes of the visit.
  • Lunch. Figueres has plenty of places to eat, but a group of 30 does not walk in without a booking. Reserve ahead.
  • Mobility. Tell me if anyone uses a wheelchair or walks slowly, and I plan the drop-off next to the accessible entrance.

Which vehicle should a group choose for the Dalí Museum?

Choose by head count first and by luggage second, because the museum does not accept large bags. The group’s day bags can stay on the bus, which is an argument for a vehicle with space.

  • Up to 7 passengers: the Mercedes V-Class, for a family or a small art group.
  • 8 to 16: the Sprinter minibus, for friends, a small class or a guided group.
  • 17 to 33: the 30-seater minibus, for a school class, a club or a large family.
  • 34 to 60: the coach, for a tour group or a full year group.

For school groups, the school trips page explains how I handle supervision, head counts and timings. Tour operators will find more on tour group coach hire, including how I plan a day with several stops.

Can I add Girona, Cadaqués or the Costa Brava to the Figueres trip?

Yes, and many groups do. Each extra stop adds hours of hire, and the hours are what I charge, so tell me the stops and I count the time honestly, including parking and boarding.

  1. Girona on the way. A walk through the old town is feasible on the outward or the return leg. The Barcelona to Girona minibus page covers the city.
  2. Cadaqués. The coast and Dalí’s link to the village make a longer day. The Dalí Foundation lists three places in all, the Theatre-Museum in Figueres, the House-Museum in Portlligat and the Gala Dalí Castle in Púbol, on its main page. The Portlligat house is near Cadaqués, so see Barcelona to Cadaqués by minibus first.
  3. The Costa Brava. For beaches and coves after the museum, the Costa Brava bus hire page covers the coast.

A day with two Dalí sites is long. The Portlligat house admits visitors in small groups by prior reservation, so a large group has to plan around the house’s entry rhythm, and I would not combine it with Figueres on a single day without checking the slots first. The Cadaqués page goes into the detail.

Who books this trip, and what do they ask?

The groups I hear from most are school and art-history classes, relatives visiting Barcelona, hotel guests who want a full-day excursion and small tour operators who do not want to run their own vehicle. They all want the same thing: one vehicle, one timetable and a driver who waits.

The questions are predictable, and answering them in the first message saves a round of e-mails:

  • the date, and whether the museum slot is already booked
  • how many passengers, and how many are children or need step-free access
  • the pick-up address in Barcelona, and whether the group arrives by air
  • whether lunch is planned in Figueres or on the way back
  • any second stop, such as Girona

If the group lands at Barcelona airport and goes straight north, tell me the flight and I include the airport leg. The airport bus hire page explains how group pick-ups work there. The service runs 24/7, so an early departure is not a problem.

Seating, comfort and the drive back

The drive north is about 1 h 40 min, and the way back is usually quieter after a full day on foot. I leave spare seats where possible so tired passengers can spread out, and I suggest the group sits in the same order on the return so the head count is quick. If you want a coffee stop on the way, tell me before the day and I add it to the plan; the break also helps a group with young children.

A good return plan has a fixed time and a flexible one. The fixed time is when the bus must leave Figueres, and the flexible one is the margin before it. If the group has a flight or a ferry the same evening, say so, and I will tell you if the plan is too tight. I would rather move the departure earlier than promise a time to the minute.

How to book a private bus from Barcelona to Figueres

  1. Open the quote form below or the contact page.
  2. Enter the date, the pick-up address, the number of passengers and the museum slot if you have one.
  3. Add any second stop, the lunch plan and anything that affects the vehicle, such as wheelchairs.
  4. I reply by e-mail or WhatsApp with the vehicle I suggest and the price, VAT included.
  5. You confirm, and I fix the departure time so the group arrives before the slot.

If you are unsure whether the estimate fits your group, send the plan and I tell you which hours I would count.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Figueres from Barcelona?

It is 138 km by road from central Barcelona to the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, about 1 h 40 min without traffic. Friday evenings and summer holidays can add time, so I plan the departure from the museum slot, not from the best case.

How do I get from Barcelona to Figueres with a group?

Scheduled trains and coaches exist, and their operators publish their own timetables. For a group, the simplest option is a private minibus or coach that collects everyone at one address and drops them near the museum. The group stays together and the driver waits.

How much is a private bus from Barcelona to Figueres?

For a return day trip with 3 hours in Figueres, the estimate is 6.5 hours of hire at my table rates: V-Class €510, Sprinter €655, minibus €735 and coach €735, VAT included. The price is for the whole vehicle. A one-way transfer is quoted on request.

Can the bus wait while we visit the museum?

Yes. With hourly hire the driver and the vehicle stay at your disposal for the hours you book. You agree the time of return with me in advance, and the driver is ready when the visit ends.

Can I book the museum tickets through you?

No. I provide the vehicle and the driver only. Tickets, group rates and guided-tour authorisations are arranged with the Dalí Theatre-Museum, so use its official page and book before you fix the date.

Is there a bus from Barcelona to the Dalí Museum?

Public services run to Figueres, and the operators publish current timetables and fares, which I do not speak for. A private bus is a different product: your own vehicle, your pick-up address and a departure time built around your museum slot.
