What is the best way to get a group from Barcelona airport to Lloret de Mar?

The best way for a group is one private vehicle that meets everyone at arrivals and drives to the hotel door. Barcelona airport to Lloret de Mar is 89 km, about 1 h 15 min without traffic, and a minibus or coach does it in a single run with all the luggage on board. You can check the road on Google Maps.

Send the date, the flight, the hotel and the head count in the quote form and I reply with the vehicle and the price, VAT included. The service runs 24 hours a day, every day of the week, so a landing at midnight is not a special case.

Lloret is a large holiday town on the Costa Brava, and most of my enquiries for this route are from groups with the same problem: a dozen or more people, a pile of bags and one hotel on a hillside street. This page is written for the person who has to organise that arrival, so it covers vehicles, luggage, the terminal pick-up, the return day and what to do when the group arrives on several flights.

Which vehicle fits my group for the Lloret de Mar transfer?

Choose the vehicle from the passenger count first and the luggage second. I run four vehicles, and the Lloret transfer is the same job in all of them.

Group size Vehicle Seats What to check before booking
Up to 7 Mercedes V-Class up to 7 Seven people with large cases can be tight; say how many cases
8 to 16 Mercedes Sprinter up to 16 Sports bags, bikes and instruments reduce the room
17 to 33 Minibus up to 33 Good size for a school year or a wedding party
34 to 60 Coach up to 60 Full groups; one vehicle for the whole arrival

A 16-seat minibus full of people leaves little room in the hold if everyone has a large case, and I will tell you honestly when to go up one size. The Sprinter page explains what that vehicle carries, and the 50-seater coach page covers the largest option.

For a family party of five or six with grandparents, the V-Class with a driver is the most comfortable choice because it behaves like a private car. For anything beyond seven passengers, think in terms of a minibus or coach from the start rather than two V-Classes, because one driver and one stop at the hotel is simpler for the group leader.

How long does the drive from Barcelona airport to Lloret de Mar take?

The drive takes about 1 h 15 min without traffic, over 89 km. That is a free-flow figure, so it is the best case and not a promise.

What lengthens it in practice:

  • the exit from the airport area in the morning and evening peaks
  • Friday afternoons and the start and end of school holidays, when many cars head for the coast
  • summer weekends, when the roads to the Costa Brava are full
  • the last few kilometres into town, where streets are narrow and a large vehicle moves slowly

For an arrival, a delay is an inconvenience. For a departure, it is a risk, so on the way home I plan the hotel pick-up with a margin, and I ask for the flight time rather than the “be at the airport” time. Groups should aim to be at the terminal well before the departure, as the airport page on Aena explains for the terminals.

What do bus, train, taxi and private transfer each offer on this route?

Each option has its place, and the right one depends on the size of the group.

  • Scheduled bus. Scheduled coach companies serve the Costa Brava from Barcelona. These suit one person or a couple who can fit a timetable and carry a single bag. Check the current times and stops on the operator’s own site, as I do not speak for it.
  • Taxi. Practical for up to four people. A group of eight needs two cars, and a long out-of-area fare is best agreed before departure. The basics are on AMB taxi.
  • Train. Aena lists the R2 Nord local train among the ways to reach the airport, but that line goes towards the city, so a group heading for the coast would still need a bus or taxi for the last stretch.
  • Shuttle or shared transfer. Shared vans sold online collect passengers from several bookings, so the route can include other drop-offs. A private vehicle is yours alone and leaves when your group is ready.
  • Private minibus or coach. One vehicle from arrivals to the hotel entrance. This is my service.

I do not publish fares or timetables for other operators, because they change. When someone asks me whether a private vehicle is the right choice, I answer plainly: for two travellers with one bag each, usually not; for eight or more with luggage, usually yes.

How much does a transfer from Barcelona airport to Lloret de Mar cost?

This transfer is quoted on request, VAT included, and the price is for the whole vehicle, not per seat. It is not in my fixed table, so I do not give a from price or a range. The figure depends on the date, the vehicle, the number of stops and whether you need the return.

What I can state are the fixed prices of the neighbouring services. Airport to or from Barcelona itself is €80 for the V-Class, €200 for the Sprinter and €320 for the minibus and the coach. Those are for the city route and I do not stretch them to the coast.

If the vehicle stays with your group in Lloret, hourly hire applies, with a 6-hour minimum per day and no maximum. Six hours cost €470 with the V-Class, €610 with the Sprinter and €685 with the minibus or coach. Extra hours are €80, €90 and €110 an hour. These hourly rows are for a driver at your disposal, and the airport run is quoted on top of the plan you describe. The full table is on the bus hire price page.

A quote from me is a written answer to the plan in your message. If you change the hotel, the date or the number of passengers, the quote changes, and I say why before you confirm.

Where does my group meet the driver at Barcelona airport?

The pick-up depends on the terminal, and I need it before I can plan the day. Barcelona airport has Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and Aena’s page on group buses at the airport lists stops for occasional services provided by coach companies, among them an occasional minibus stop at T1 and docks at T2. Because stops and rules are set by the airport and can change, I confirm the exact point with you once I have your flight and terminal.

To make the first ten minutes easy:

  1. Give the group leader’s mobile number in the form, so the driver and the leader can talk.
  2. Tell me the flight number, the landing time and the terminal.
  3. Say how many large cases, sports bags or instruments there are.
  4. Ask the group to stay together at arrivals until the leader has met the driver.

If the group lands on several flights, tell me the times. Depending on the gap, I can plan one longer wait for the last arrival or split the run into two shorter ones. Either way, it helps to have one name to contact for the whole group, not twenty.

What should a hotel group in Lloret prepare before arriving?

A hotel arrival is where plans most often go wrong, not on the road. A few details avoid most of the trouble.

  • Hotel name and address. Lloret has many hotels with similar names, so I need the exact address, not just the name. Large vehicles cannot always stop at the entrance, and I agree the drop-off point with you.
  • Check-in time. A morning landing often means a hotel room that is not ready. Ask the hotel whether the group can leave bags at reception, and tell me if you want a stop for breakfast or a short walk on the way.
  • Late arrivals. A flight that lands after dark does not change the drive, but it changes the plan for reception. Tell the hotel the arrival time in advance.
  • Luggage. Sports bags, bikes and instruments take more space than they look like. Give me the numbers so I can choose between the Sprinter and the minibus.
  • Return day. Tell me the flight time and I work out the hotel departure. Do not plan for the shortest drive time; plan for the real one.

Lloret itself is a town of beaches and walks. The official tourism site, Lloret de Mar Turisme, lists the Santa Clotilde Gardens, the Maritime Museum, the church of Sant Romà and the modernist cemetery among its sights, and a coastal trail that runs between Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar. Groups that arrive with a free afternoon often start there.

Is the Lloret transfer right for schools, teams and parties?

Yes, and these groups have the most to gain from a single vehicle. Each has a different priority.

School and youth groups. Teachers want one headcount, one boarding point and one drop-off. A minibus or coach does this, and the driver waits while the group counts bags. My page on school trips and sports teams explains how these bookings are handled, including the information I ask for in advance.

Sports teams. A squad arrives with kit bags, balls and sometimes bikes. These take space, so tell me the number and size. For a tournament, ask for the return in the same message so both legs are planned together.

Weddings and parties. A wedding group arrives at one hotel from several flights, with formal clothes in cases that must not be crushed. Say whether the group wants a stop for supplies on the way. For a stag or hen party, say how many bags and where the hotel is, and I plan the pick-up so the driver can find the entrance easily.

Families. A family with grandparents and children needs the least time on the road. The V-Class takes up to seven, and the Sprinter is the next size up.

For groups that want the vehicle for the rest of the stay, hourly hire covers day trips along the coast. The driver can take the group to Girona or to the Dalí museum in Figueres, whose official page is the Dalí Theatre-Museum. For routes along the coast, read my page on Costa Brava bus hire.

Do EU driving-time rules affect a group transfer?

For a transfer of this length, they rarely matter, but they matter for a long day. The European Commission’s page on driving time and rest periods sets a daily driving limit of 9 hours, which can be extended to 10 hours twice a week, and a break of at least 45 minutes after 4.5 hours of driving. In my fleet these rules concern the Sprinter, the minibus and the coach, which carry more than nine passengers, while the V-Class is a car.

A single run from the airport to Lloret fits inside those limits with room to spare. The case where they matter is a day that combines an early airport pick-up, a long programme on the coast and a late return. If I see that in your plan, I say so and suggest a split into two days or a change of timings. It is better to know before the date than at the vehicle.

Can the same vehicle take the group back to the airport?

Yes, and I suggest booking both legs together. Ask for the return in the form and give me the flight time. I then plan the hotel departure so that the group reaches the terminal with time to spare, and I tell the group leader when to have the cases in the lobby.

For a departure, three things help:

  • send the flight time and the terminal as soon as you have them
  • agree one meeting point at the hotel, and tell the group the time
  • plan for the coast roads on a Sunday, which are busier in summer

If the group splits and some leave a day earlier, quote them as a separate run. A smaller vehicle may then be the better choice, and I can propose it.

How to book

  1. Open the contact page or use the quote form below.
  2. Enter the date, the flight and the terminal, and the hotel in Lloret de Mar.
  3. Add the number of passengers and large bags, and say whether the group has sports kit or instruments.
  4. Say whether you want the return transfer, and the time of the flight home.
  5. I reply by e-mail or WhatsApp with the vehicle I suggest and a quote that includes VAT.

If your group is arriving in Barcelona and staying in the city first, the page on airport bus hire explains the standard run, and the home page shows the whole fleet.

Frequently asked questions

Which airport do I fly into for Lloret de Mar?

Most groups land at Barcelona-El Prat, 89 km from Lloret de Mar, about 1 h 15 min without traffic. If your ticket says Barcelona, this is the transfer you need. A flight to another airport in the region is a different route and I quote it separately.

How long does it take to get from Barcelona airport to Lloret de Mar?

About 1 h 15 min in free-flow conditions. Summer weekends, Friday afternoons and the coast roads can be busier, so for a flight home I leave the hotel earlier than the minimum and agree the time with the group leader.

How much is a transfer from Barcelona airport to Lloret de Mar for a group?

It is quoted on request, VAT included. The price is for the whole vehicle, not per seat, and it depends on the date, the vehicle and whether you need a return. I do not publish a from price because the figure changes with the plan.

Is there a train from Barcelona airport to Lloret de Mar?

The airport is served by the R2 Nord local train line according to Aena, but that line takes you into the city, not to the coast. A group would then change to a bus or a taxi for the last part with all its luggage. A private vehicle from the terminal to the hotel avoids the changes.

Can a coach take 50 people from Barcelona airport to Lloret?

Yes. The coach seats up to 60 passengers. Send me the flight, the hotel name and the number of suitcases through the form and I quote the transfer.

Can the same vehicle take us back to the airport?

Yes. Ask for a return in the form and give me the flight time. I plan the departure from the hotel so the group reaches the terminal in good time, and the service runs 24 hours a day, so an early flight is not a problem.

Is a taxi or a private minibus better from Barcelona airport to Lloret?

A taxi suits one to four people. From eight passengers with bags you need two cars, and a minibus or coach with one driver and one stop at the hotel is simpler. I quote the vehicle and you compare it with what a second taxi would cost.
