Bus rental in Barcelona means one thing here: a vehicle with a driver, for a group that wants to travel together. I run four sizes, from a Mercedes V-Class for up to 7 passengers to a coach for up to 60, and I price them from one table with VAT included. You choose the date, the pick-up address and the programme; I choose the vehicle with you.

Send the details in the quote form below and I reply with a vehicle and a price. This page is about the decision before that: what you are renting, which kind of booking suits your day and how to compare offers that look alike.

What does “bus rental” mean in Barcelona?

It means a private vehicle booked with its driver for your group, and not a van you collect and drive yourself. Searches such as bus rental, bus hire, van rental and minibus rental overlap, and they cover three different products:

  • Self-drive van rental. A rental desk gives you the keys. I do not offer this.
  • Scheduled public transport. Tickets on a timetable, shared with other passengers. The TMB site covers the city’s metro and buses.
  • Private bus with a driver. A vehicle for your group only, with a driver, a pick-up address of your choice and hours you decide. This is what I rent.

If your question is “who takes my group from A to B and waits”, read on. If it is “where do I get the keys to a van”, you are looking for a different company.

Which kind of booking suits my day?

There are two ways to rent, and a third that I quote case by case. The table shows how each is priced and when it fits.

Kind of booking How it is priced Fits
Fixed airport run One row per vehicle: Barcelona Airport to or from Barcelona Arrivals, departures, a group landing together
Driver at your disposal Hours: 6 as the daily minimum, 8 as the second row, then an hourly rate, no maximum Sightseeing, school days, weddings, multi-stop days
Anything else Quoted on request Other destinations, several days, one-way routes, events

The cruise port (the Port of Barcelona terminals) to or from Barcelona is priced exactly like the airport row. The S-Class is booked by the hour only.

The choice changes the price more than the vehicle does. A single drop-off 40 minutes away is usually simpler as a fixed run. A group that needs the vehicle through a day, with waiting time, belongs in the hourly rows. The page on airport bus hire covers the transfer from El Prat.

Which vehicle should I rent?

Choose by passengers first and bags second. I rent four vehicles and the prices below are from the owner’s table, VAT included.

Up to 7 passengers: the V-Class

The V-Class is a people carrier with seven seats. The airport row is €80 and six hours is €470. It suits a family, a business delegation or a small wedding party. If the group has big suitcases, ask me before booking seven passengers, because the luggage space is limited.

Up to 16 passengers: the Sprinter

The Sprinter minibus is the vehicle I recommend most often for mid-size groups. The airport row is €200, six hours is €610 and each extra hour is €90.

Up to 33 passengers: the minibus

The 33-seat minibus fits a full class, a club delegation or a corporate team. The airport row is €320 and six hours is €685. The mini bus hire page explains how I plan these bookings.

Up to 60 passengers: the coach

The coach has the same prices as the minibus: €320 from the airport, €685 for six hours, €110 for each extra hour. It is for the biggest groups. The page on the 60-seat coach covers the points that matter at that size.

Because the minibus and coach prices are equal, there is no saving in squeezing 34 people into the smaller vehicle, and no extra cost in choosing the larger vehicle for 30 people with bags.

What is included in a bus rental booking?

The vehicle and the driver are one service. In a standard booking:

  • the driver collects the group at the address you give
  • the vehicle stays at your disposal for the hours booked
  • you decide the stops, within the time
  • the price is for the vehicle, not per passenger
  • prices include VAT, and extra hours are charged at the hourly rate

I only state what I can document, so I do not list insurance amounts or onboard equipment in this page. If you need a specific item, such as space for a wheelchair or a baby buggy, say so in the form and I tell you what I can do. The service runs 24 hours a day, every day of the week, which matters for early flights and late returns.

Who rents a bus, and what do they ask for?

The same table covers very different days, so a few shapes help.

A company offsite. Twenty-two colleagues are collected at an office, driven to a venue outside the city and brought back in the evening. A 33-seat minibus on the hourly rows is the fit, and the extra hour rate applies if the dinner runs late.

A family reunion. Twelve relatives arrive on different days and meet at a country house. A Sprinter handles the airport pick-up and the trip to the venue. If everyone lands at once, it is one transfer; if they arrive in waves, I suggest the hourly option so the driver can wait.

A school or club. The group needs a vehicle for the day and the same driver from morning to evening. This is the hourly booking, and the page for school trips and sport teams explains the planning.

A hen or stag group. A group that asks for a party bus should read the party bus page first, because it states what I provide and what I do not.

Do I rent from an operator or from a broker?

Both appear in the results, and they sell the same sentence: “bus rental in Barcelona”. An operator runs the vehicles and answers for the booking. A broker takes your request and passes it to a company that has a free vehicle, sometimes a different one on each date. Neither is wrong, but you should know which one you are talking to, because it decides who you call when the group is waiting on a pavement.

With me the answer is simple: I take the booking, I agree the pick-up time with you in writing and you deal with me, not with a call centre. If you want to see the whole service on one page, the home page shows the fleet, the prices and how a request becomes a booking.

When you compare, ask a broker three extra questions: which company will run the vehicle, whether the driver’s hours fit your programme and what happens if the vehicle does not arrive. Ask the same of an operator. The answers are usually short, and the silence after the question tells you as much as the words.

What happens on the day of the rental?

A typical rental has five moments, and each one has a person responsible for it.

  1. The evening before. You confirm the pick-up time and the number of passengers. If the group has grown, this is the last moment to change the vehicle without stress.
  2. The pick-up. The driver is at the point you gave at the agreed time. The group leader counts the passengers and the bags.
  3. The programme. The vehicle follows the stops you planned. If the group is late somewhere, the hour is charged at the hourly rate, so the day does not turn into an argument.
  4. The waiting time. The driver stays with the vehicle, or parks nearby and comes back at the time agreed with the group leader. The clock runs while the vehicle waits, because it is yours for that time.
  5. The drop-off. The last stop is the one where the group gets out with its bags, and the booking ends there.

Most problems in group travel come from the first and the last moment: a pick-up point that is not where the driver thinks it is, and a drop-off that was never agreed. Both are solved with an address and a landmark in writing.

What if the group changes size?

It happens often, and it is easy to plan for if you say so early. A booking made for 28 passengers that becomes 34 is a different vehicle, and I would rather hear it ten days before than at the pick-up. A booking that shrinks from 30 to 22 can stay in the larger vehicle, since the minibus and the coach have the same prices, or move to a smaller one if the numbers are firm.

Luggage works the same way. A school group with backpacks and a wedding group with suitcases fill the same number of seats and a very different amount of space. If the bags are large, I say so in the quote and, if needed, suggest the next vehicle size up or a second vehicle for the cases.

How far ahead should I rent?

As early as the date and the number of passengers are known. I do not publish a fixed lead time, because availability depends on the date, and a weekend with a large event in the city is not the same as a quiet Tuesday. What I can say is how a quote moves:

  1. Send the date, the pick-up address and the likely number of passengers.
  2. I reply with the vehicle I suggest and the price.
  3. You confirm, and the booking is written down with the pick-up time.
  4. If the numbers change, tell me early: a move from 30 to 36 passengers changes the vehicle, not only the price.

For events with fixed times, such as a flight, a ceremony or a kick-off, build in a margin of at least half an hour. For flight and terminal information, the official Barcelona airport site is the place to check.

How do I compare bus rental quotes?

When you ask several companies for a bus rental in Barcelona, the numbers are rarely comparable at first sight. Some are operators and some are brokers who pass your request on, and the price on the screen may be a deposit, a base rate or a total. Compare like with like:

  1. whether VAT is included
  2. the minimum hours per day
  3. the hourly rate beyond that minimum
  4. whether a driver is part of the price
  5. whether the quote is for a named vehicle size
  6. who runs the vehicle on the day

In my case, VAT is included, the minimum is 6 hours per day, extra hours are at the rate in the table, a driver is always part of the booking and I run it myself. Put the same questions to everyone and the cheapest quote may stop looking cheapest. The price page lists my rows in full.

What do I need to tell the driver?

A short briefing saves time on the day. Before the date, send or agree:

  • the pick-up point, with the street and a landmark
  • the time that the group will be ready, not the time that the first person arrives
  • the final drop-off and any stop in between
  • the name and mobile number of one person in the group who answers the phone
  • the number of bags and any large item, such as an instrument case or a pushchair

Count the people and the luggage, not only the seats, and tell me about any group member who needs step-free access. If the group goes beyond the city, the usual trips have their own pages with distance and drive time: Montserrat, Sitges, Girona, PortAventura and Andorra. Longer routes are quoted on request.

For vehicles with ten or more seats including the driver, which covers the Sprinter, the minibus and the coach, EU rules limit a driver’s day. The European Commission sets daily driving at 9 hours, extendable to 10 twice a week, with a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours. A rental that tries to fit a very long programme into one day should account for this, and I tell you if yours does not.

How to book

  1. Open the quote form below or the contact page.
  2. Enter the date, the pick-up address and the number of passengers.
  3. Say whether it is a transfer or hours at your disposal, and how long.
  4. Mention luggage and anything else I should know.
  5. I reply by e-mail or WhatsApp with the vehicle I suggest and the price.

Send the details even if the programme is not final. I would rather quote a plan that can change than hold up a booking for a missing hour.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rent a bus in Barcelona without a driver?

No. Every vehicle I offer comes with a driver. Nobody in the group has to drive, find parking or stay alert on the road, and the driver is at your disposal for the hours booked.

How much does it cost to rent a bus in Barcelona?

A driver at your disposal for the 6-hour minimum is €470 in the V-Class, €610 in the Sprinter and €685 in the minibus or coach. Eight hours is €630, €785 and €900. Prices include VAT. Extra hours are €80, €90 and €110.

Is renting a van cheaper than renting a bus with a driver?

A self-drive van is a different product: you drive, you park and you carry the responsibility for the group. I do not rent self-drive vehicles. If your group wants one pick-up, luggage space and someone else at the wheel, compare it with the rows in my table.

Can I rent a bus from Barcelona airport?

Yes. The airport to or from Barcelona is €80 in the V-Class, €200 in the Sprinter and €320 in the minibus or coach. Longer destinations from the airport are quoted on request.

Do you rent party buses?

I offer vehicles with a driver for groups, and I quote events on request. The party bus page explains what I do and do not provide for this type of booking.

Is there a maximum number of hours?

No. Hire by the hour has a 6-hour minimum per day and no maximum. Extra hours are charged at the hourly rate.
