What is the easiest way to get from Barcelona to Andorra by bus?
The easiest way for a group is a private Barcelona to Andorra bus: one vehicle that collects everyone at one address, drives to Andorra la Vella and brings the group back at the time you choose. It is 192 km from Plaça de Catalunya to Andorra la Vella, about 2 h 40 min without traffic, and I quote a fixed price for it. You can check the route on Google Maps.
Send the date and the number of passengers in the quote form and I reply with the vehicle and the price. If you are comparing this with other ways of reaching the mountains, my home page on bus hire in Barcelona shows the whole fleet and how a booking works.
Searches for this trip are mostly about timetables, tickets and prices. A private bus has no ticket office and no timetable: it leaves when your group is ready. What I give you is a clear price per vehicle and a plan for the day, and the rest of this page answers the questions that groups ask before they book.
How much does a private Barcelona to Andorra bus cost?
The route is in my table at €395 for the V-Class (up to 7 passengers), €1,220 for the Sprinter minibus (up to 16), €1,485 for the minibus (up to 33) and €1,485 for the coach (up to 60). Prices are in euros, include VAT and are for the whole vehicle, not per person.
The minibus and the coach cost the same on this route, so a group of 25 may as well take the coach if it needs more room for bags. A small group of up to 7 is a different case, because the V-Class has its own, smaller row.
Anything that is not in the table is quoted on request. That covers a different date pattern, a stay of several nights, a pick-up outside Barcelona, extra stops on the way and a return to a different address. I do not publish a “from” price for these, because the figure depends on the plan. The wider price page shows the airport and hourly rows.
How long does the Barcelona to Andorra bus take?
The drive takes about 2 h 40 min each way without traffic. The distance is 192 km. In practice, I tell groups to plan around three hours each way, and the reasons are practical:
- heavy traffic leaving Barcelona on a Friday afternoon or before a holiday
- mountain roads, and snow or fog in winter
- the border control at the entrance to Andorra
- a comfort stop for the group on the way
Andorra tourism names the N-145 from La Seu d’Urgell as the road from Spain in its how to get here guide, and the last part of the journey is a mountain road. The route climbs into the Pyrenees before the border, so a group that is prone to travel sickness should sit near the front and tell me before departure.
Driver hours matter on this trip. Under European Union rules, a driver must take a break of at least 45 minutes after 4.5 hours of driving, and the daily driving limit is 9 hours, with 10 allowed twice a week. The European Commission sets these out. The drive to Andorra fits inside the limit on its own, but a day with a long detour, a late start and a return the same night is tight. That is a main reason I suggest an overnight stay when the programme is full.
Is there a Barcelona to Andorra bus timetable or station?
Yes, for single travellers. Scheduled coach services link Barcelona with Andorra la Vella, and Andorra tourism lists Barcelona among the destinations of the scheduled international services in its how to get here guide. Operators such as Andbus publish their own timetables and fares, and the Barcelona stops include the airport terminals and a stop on Avinguda Diagonal. For schedules and tickets, check the operator’s own page, as I do not speak for it.
What the scheduled service cannot do is wait for a group. A school class, a team or a family with luggage faces fixed departures, a ticket for each person and a walk from the stop to the hotel at the other end. A private bus changes four things:
- it picks everyone up at one address, such as a hotel, a school or a flat
- it leaves when the group is ready, not at the next departure
- it drops the group where you choose in Andorra la Vella
- it brings everyone back at the agreed time, with the same driver
If the group is arriving at the airport and going straight to the mountains, the airport to Andorra page applies. A group travelling in the same vehicle from landing to the hotel avoids a change of transport with luggage, which is the most tiring part of the trip.
Should a group do Andorra as a day trip or stay overnight?
A day trip is realistic but long; an overnight stay is easier on the group. Choose the day trip when the group wants one specific thing, and the overnight when it wants a programme.
| Option | Best for | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Day trip | Shopping, a viewpoint, a lunch, a spa session | An early start, a few hours in the principality and a late return |
| Overnight | A spa weekend, a team trip, a wedding party | A relaxed second day, with the return at an hour you choose |
| Ski day | Groups with equipment | Space for skis and boots decides the vehicle; see the ski bus page |
| One-way | Groups that fly into Barcelona and leave from Andorra or France | Quoted on request, with the return handled separately |
The day trip
A day trip works for groups that want a specific thing: shopping in Andorra la Vella, a mountain viewpoint, a spa session or a lunch. The advantage is simplicity. You pay for one booking, and the driver brings everyone back. The risk is time: everything is compressed, and a group that leaves at 8:00 and wants to be back in Barcelona in the evening will have a few hours in the principality, not a full programme.
The overnight stay
A two-day booking gives the group a real stop. I plan the return for the next day at an hour that suits the group, and the driver’s overnight is part of the quote, shown plainly rather than as a hidden extra. This is what I suggest for a spa booking, an event or a group that wants to see more than the main shopping street.
Ski groups
In winter, many groups go to the slopes rather than to Andorra la Vella. Andorra tourism’s ski page names Grandvalira, Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís as the main winter resorts. If that is your case, the Pas de la Casa ski bus page is the one to read, because ski equipment changes the vehicle I recommend.
Do passengers need documents to cross the border into Andorra?
Yes. Andorra is not in the EU or the Schengen area, and there is a border control on the road. On its passports, visas and customs page, Andorra tourism states that a passport or national ID card is sufficient for EU citizens to enter or leave, and that non-EU citizens should check whether they need a Schengen visa. Because entering Andorra means leaving the Schengen area, the visa must allow at least two entries.
Minors need extra attention. The same page says that minors travelling without a parent or guardian need a valid ID card or passport, a departure declaration from a police station and a signed parental authorisation with copies of the parents’ passports. For a school or club, the group leader should check this well before the date, not at the vehicle.
Customs also apply when you come back. The official page explains that there are limits on the quantity or value of goods bought in Andorra that you can bring into the EU, and that the allowances can vary by age. The exact figures are in a flyer linked from that page. I do not give advice on entry rules for individual nationalities, because they change; I ask every passenger to carry the documents and I keep the vehicle ready at the border.
Is Andorra worth a day trip from Barcelona?
It is worth it if the group knows what it wants. Andorra’s draw is the mountains, the shopping, the spas and, in winter, the ski resorts, and none of these is an hour from Barcelona. Andorra tourism has sections on shopping, wellness and skiing, and these are the pages to read before you fix the date.
For a shopping group, the day is short but works well, because the bus carries the bags. For a spa group, I suggest booking the session first and planning the day around it. The official wellness page notes that spas adapt by season, with swimming pools and solariums in summer and thermal and relaxing spaces in winter, so the offer depends on the month.
For a group that wants only scenery, think twice. About three hours each way is a lot of the day, and a group that wants a short mountain outing may prefer Montserrat, which is near enough for a half day. If the group is going to the French side or to the Costa Brava, see the coach hire in Catalonia page for the longer routes I run. I do not list opening hours or entry fees, because they change, and the official pages are the place to check them.
What does the day look like on a private bus?
The usual programme is simple. The group meets at one address in Barcelona, the driver sets off at an agreed time, and the first hour is the exit from the city. A comfort stop around the middle of the journey is normal for a group, and I place it where the vehicle can park easily.
Once in Andorra la Vella, the driver drops the group at the point you choose and tells everyone where and when to meet again. Groups usually split into those who shop, those who walk and those who book a spa or an activity. For the return, the group boards at the agreed time and the drive back follows the same road.
The journey is long, so I advise against a programme that ends with a tight deadline in Barcelona. A flight or a ferry on the same evening is a risk, and I will say so when I read the plan. If a late arrival is likely, the service runs 24/7, so the pick-up can be late at night or early in the morning without a different price structure in the table.
Which vehicle should a group choose for Andorra?
A group of up to 7 fits the V-Class, which suits a family or a small business party. Up to 16 people fit the Sprinter minibus. A class, a club or a mid-size tour fits a 33-seat minibus, and the 60-seat coach takes full groups.
What changes the choice for this trip:
- Shopping groups carry bags on the way back. A minibus or coach gives more room than a V-Class, even for a small party.
- Ski groups need space for skis, boots and helmets. Tell me how many people carry equipment.
- School and club groups travel with a teacher or coach responsible for them. Documents for minors are the group’s responsibility, and the school trip page explains how I handle these bookings.
- Families often prefer the V-Class for up to 7, because it feels like a private car with a driver.
None of this changes the table price for the route, but it changes the vehicle. If the group also wants a half day in Barcelona before or after the trip, the private sightseeing bus page is the place to start, and travel agencies that package the mountains with the city can ask me for a combined plan.
How do I pay for the bus, and what is included?
You do not pay on the bus. A private booking is confirmed in writing from the quote form, and the price in my reply is the price for the vehicle and the driver for the trip described in your message. The prices in the table include VAT.
Because the sections above are about one-way distances, remember that the price is for the route you describe. If you add a stop, change the return time or ask to stay overnight, the quote changes, and I tell you why before you confirm. If you need an invoice for a company, school or association, add the name in the form.
How to book
- Open the quote form below or the contact page.
- Enter the date, the pick-up address and the number of passengers.
- Say whether it is a day trip or an overnight, and what time the group must be back.
- Mention luggage, ski gear or equipment.
- I reply by e-mail or WhatsApp with the vehicle I suggest and the price.
If you are unsure whether a day trip or an overnight is better for your group, ask in the form and I explain both.
